David Clifton-Strawn is an Atlanta-based portrait photographer. His work is included in the permanent collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia. He has been exhibited at the Atlanta Photography Group, Atlanta Airport, Bowers Museum, Buckhead Public Library, John Wayne Airport and Newport Beach Central Library. Self-taught in the art of photography, he began his study and use of studio portraiture 3 years ago as a way to give visibility to different groups within Atlanta. His main work for the last two years has been an ongoing portrait project titled “Simple, Complex, Obvious and Profound: Portraits and Stories of Atlanta Artists” which celebrates Atlanta artists from many disciplines, elevating the sitter through a celebrity portrait aesthetic inspired by fashion magazines. Selections from the project will be on exhibit mid-Summer, location to be announced. In all of his work, David focuses on the dignity, strength and resilience of individuals. His images often feature individuals from the LGBTQIA+ community and other underrepresented populations. He finds Inspiration in the works of Rory Lewis, Phil Sharp, Katy Grannan, Herman Leonard, Richard Avedon, Irving Penn, Diane Arbus and Robert Mapplethorpe.
